Tiny Temperature Stars

I love this ongoing temperature project, where I use tiny origami stars to visually represent both the daily actual temperature and what it feels like (according to my weather app) at 12 noon in the place I live (Scotland, UK).

For this, I initially created a colour scale, where each individual colour represents three degrees Celsius; ranging from dark blue for the coldest temperatures through to red for the hottest. Each day, I fold six tiny stars for each of the two finished temperature tubes (‘actual’ and ‘feels like’ temperature), which, over time, is a stunning visual representation of the change in temperature over months – and years to come. By the way: When I am on holiday, I fill additional little bottles to show the local temperature at 12 noon.

So far in 2025, I have completed January to May, and I can’t wait to see the whole year together.

This project helps me with a vow I made in 2024 that, no matter how busy life got or what I was doing, I would fold at least one star a day to remind me of my creative passion. And I haven’t missed a day since.
